Cookie policy
Everything Flourish stores in your browser, listed by name, with what it does and how long it lasts.
Last updated 2 August 2026
The short version
- A few cookies are needed to sign you in and remember your settings. Without them the product does not work.
- Analytics happen only if you agree. Until you answer, we measure nothing on your device, and if you say no we stop measuring entirely.
- We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not let anyone track you across other websites.
- A lot of what Flourish stores is in your browser’s own storage rather than in a cookie. It is listed here too, because it is your device either way.
Cookies we need
These are set because the product cannot work without them. They do not need your consent, and turning them off in your browser will break signing in.
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| __session, __client_uat and other names beginning __clerk | Clerk, our sign-in provider | Keeps you signed in and stops someone else using your session. | Managed by Clerk. Cleared when you sign out. |
| flourish_analytics_consent | Flourish | Remembers whether you said yes or no to analytics, so we stop asking. | 365 days |
| flourish_marketing_consent | Flourish | Remembers whether you said yes or no to advertising measurement. Nothing of that kind is loaded yet, and this cookie is how it stays that way until you change your mind. | 365 days |
| flourish_attr | Flourish | Remembers which page or partner site sent you here, so sign-up can be credited to it. It holds a page name, a partner name, a category and campaign tags. It holds nothing about you. | 60 minutes, and it is cleared as soon as you sign in |
| NEXT_LOCALE | Flourish, through the next-intl library | Remembers which language you chose. | Set by the library, typically one year |
| sidebar:state | Flourish | Remembers whether you left the side menu open or closed. | 7 days |
Analytics, only if you agree
We use PostHog to see which parts of Flourish get used, so we can fix the parts that do not. Consent works in three states and the middle one is the point of it. Before you answer, nothing is written to your device and anything measured is held in memory, so it goes when you close the tab. If you say yes, PostHog keeps an identifier so return visits are recognised. If you say no, measurement stops.
One thing that paragraph does not cover, so we will say it plainly. The PostHog software is loaded when the page opens, before you have answered, which means PostHog’s servers in the EU see your IP address on that first request. Nothing is stored on your device and no profile is built until you agree. We would rather tell you than have you find it in your network tab.
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| ph_… _posthog cookie and matching browser storage | PostHog | Recognises the same browser across visits, so a return visit is not counted as a new person. Nothing is written until you agree. Before then we measure in memory only, and it disappears when you close the tab. | Set by PostHog, typically one year |
| flourish:sign_up_recorded | Flourish | Remembers that your sign-up has already been counted, so it is not counted twice. | Until you clear your browser storage |
You can change your answer at any time with the Cookie preferences link at the bottom of every page, whether or not you are signed in. If you have an account, Settings under Privacy holds the same switch and applies it across your devices. Turning it off takes effect immediately in the tab you are in, not at your next sign-in.
Advertising, only if you agree
This one is off, and it will stay off until you turn it on. We are a charity, so when we do advertise we need to know whether it reached anyone rather than guess. That needs a tag that recognises an arrival from an advert. Nothing of the kind is loaded today, and this section exists so the switch is not a surprise when it starts working.
What we keep in your browser
Flourish keeps quite a lot on your device so pages open quickly and you do not lose work. None of it is sent anywhere on its own, and clearing your browser data for this site removes all of it.
| Key | Where | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
| flourish-query-cache | Local storage | A copy of recent answers from our API so pages open instantly instead of reloading. On a signed-in device this can include your profile, saved jobs and other things you have already seen. Signing out and clearing your browser data removes it. |
| flourish_moss_messages, flourish_moss_quick_replies, flourish_moss_extras, flourish_moss_session_map | Session storage, and local storage for the session map | Keeps a conversation with Moss on screen while you move between pages. Session storage clears when you close the tab. |
| flourish:assistant-chat | Local storage | Keeps the corner assistant conversation when you navigate. |
| flourish:attribution | Session storage | The same arrival context as the flourish_attr cookie, kept for the rest of the visit so onboarding can prefill. |
| flourish:locale | Local storage | The language you chose. |
| theme | Local storage | Light or dark mode, set by the next-themes library. |
| flourish.search.recent and flourish.search.history | Local storage | Your recent searches, so the search box can offer them again. |
| flourish-active-location, flourish-my-location, flourish-search-location and flourish-recent-locations | Local storage | The area you were last looking at, and areas you searched for before, so a page does not ask again. |
| flourish:today-mood and flourish:checkin-today | Local storage | Your answer to today’s check-in, so the same question is not asked twice in one day. |
| flourish:motivation-map and flourish:guided-unit:… | Local storage | Draft answers in a guided exercise, kept on your device so you do not lose them. |
| flourish:landing-research | Session storage | The question you asked before signing in, and what we found, so you can carry on where you left off. Cleared when you close the tab. |
| flourish:cv-nudge-dismissed, flourish:setup-banner-dismissed, flourish-welcome-dismissed | Local storage | Remembers that you closed a prompt, so it stays closed. |
One of these is worth knowing about. The key flourish-query-cache holds a copy of recent answers from our servers so pages open instantly. On a shared or public computer, sign out and clear the site data when you finish.
Cookies other companies set
Some of what appears in your browser is set by companies whose software we use. Clerk signs you in. PostHog measures use once you agree. Stripe handles payment on the billing pages, and Google serves the maps. Each of these controls its own cookie names and lifetimes, and we cannot change them.
Managing all of this
- Analytics consent lives in Settings, under Privacy, and applies to your account across devices.
- Every browser lets you block or delete cookies and site storage for a single site. Blocking the essential ones will stop you signing in.
- Deleting your account removes what we hold on our side. Clearing your browser data removes what is on your device.
If a key appears in your browser that is not listed here, tell us at privacy@flourish.so and we will either explain it or remove it.
